This gorgeous destination wedding took all of us, including the bride and groom from Colorado to Santa Barbara, CA and some guests from even further. From the start, Josh and Dvetta had a beautiful and intimate wedding day in mind. When they booked with me, they knew that they would be staying at the stunning Fess Parker Double Tree right across the street from the crashing Pacific waves. They were talking about getting married there, but wanted my opinion since I know California. I had never been to Santa Barbara before, but I have spent so much time in the colorful surf town of San Clemente where my mom grew up. Because of this, I knew that the main beach would be busy if the weather was nice and I also knew the reputation of Santa Barbara's beautiful cliffy, hidden beaches. I did my research and found an awesome spot called Mesa Lane Steps. The beach access is tucked away in the back of a neighborhood, the beach disappears when the tide comes up and the views are incredible. Luckily the planned ceremony time matched the tide chart perfectly. Josh and Dvetta both got ready at the Fess Parker Hotel and since we knew it would be super difficult to keep them away from each other on the way to the beach access, we did a first look. Following the first look, I had them dance in the courtyard hallway. There was a band setting up for the event that night, so they played them a little tune. You wouldn't know it, but Josh is actually deaf. I was amazed as I watched him follow the drummer's beat by sight and dance with Dvetta. Seriously, he is a pretty awesome guy! After that, we ran across to the main beach to do a few photos. Although the sun was high in the sky, the beach and boardwalk photographed beautifully as the palm trees danced in the golden light. We all went over to Mesa Lane and hiked a gazillion steps down to the beach. So many steps, but SO worth it! The beach was beautiful, the cliffs framed the scene and the light exaggerated the colors of the water. We walked to the spot on the beach we had all chosen with the old tree logs laying off the cliffs into the water and the awesome cave we found! Their good friend Bobby Wayne flew in from Oklahoma to marry them and he actually provided the ceremony music! He brought his great grandfather's fiddle! This was our first wedding ceremony with a fiddle and it was beautiful! Josh and Dvetta said their vows to each other with honesty and sincerity in their eyes as their beautiful daughter Dalleigh looking on. It was such a beautiful and romantic ceremony! I am so very glad that I could be such a big part of their special day and their adventure to California together. I know that these photos will mean so much to them for years to come! Oh and to wrap up an already perfect day, we saw WHALES! Right off shore a mommy and calf swimming up the coast! It was amazing! Thanks for reading!
